TOULOUSE EDGE BORDEAUX-BÈGLES IN EPIC FINAL TO CLAIM THIRD STRAIGHT TOP 14 TITLE

Toulouse 39 – 33 Union Bordeaux-Bègles (AET: 33-33 at FT)

In a breathtaking finale at the Stade de France, Toulouse captured their 24th Bouclier de Brennus with a dramatic 39-33 victory over Union Bordeaux-Bègles after extra time, sealing a historic third consecutive Top 14 crown. In a match overflowing with tension, physicality, and unforgettable moments, the Rouge et Noir found a way to prevail thanks to the relentless work of Jack Willis, a masterful display from Anthony Jelonch, and the steady boot of Thomas Ramos. The first half set the tone for a classic. Maxime Lucu’s early penalties put UBB ahead 6-3, but Toulouse’s power up front soon turned the tide. After a yellow card to Petti, Jelonch crashed over from close range. Bordeaux quickly hit back through Damian Penaud after a slick inside ball from Lucu, but Toulouse regained control before the break as Willis finished off a rolling maul to give them a 20-16 halftime lead. The drama only intensified after the interval. Jalibert pounced on a loose ball after the kickoff to restore Bordeaux’s advantage, but Willis responded with his second try, rumbling over to make it 27-23. A dangerous tackle by Bochaton reduced UBB to 14, and Ramos’ penalty extended Toulouse’s lead to 30-23. Another three points from Ramos seemed to put the game out of reach at 33-23, yet Bordeaux refused to fold. Petti finished in the corner to cut it to 33-30 before Lucu, cool under pressure, slotted a last-gasp penalty on the siren to send the final into extra time at 33-33. In the added twenty minutes, it was Toulouse’s experience and composure that shone through. Pita Ahki won a critical turnover at the breakdown, allowing Ramos to edge Toulouse ahead 36-33 in the 105th minute. Ramos then landed a final long-range penalty to cap off a perfect night from the tee (8/8) and seal an extraordinary triumph. Toulouse lift their 24th Top 14 trophy, cementing their dynasty with a remarkable three-peat (2023, 2024, 2025). Bordeaux, meanwhile, fall heartbreakingly short of completing their own double after winning the Champions Cup earlier this season, but depart with heads held high after contributing to one of the greatest finals in French rugby history.
